Despite all of us being told (often times over) that we have to keep our eyes on the roadway and also our hands on the wheel when we’re driving, every single time a notice comes via on our mobile phones, the majority of us still have the tendency to obtain sidetracked. As well as research after research has shown that distracted vehicle drivers are just one of the leading root causes of crashes on our roads.
According to a study commissioned by Samsung Netherlands, roughly a 3rd of Dutch motorists periodically use their phones while owning or riding a bike, with a lot of participants specifying public opinion as a reason for immediately reacting to telephone calls and texts.
So, to combat this increasing hazard to road security, Samsung has developed an Android app – aptly named In-Traffic Reply – that helps motorists react to messages without removing their hands from the steering wheel.
The app relies on a phone’s GPS to detect when an individual is riding a bike or in the driver’s seat. And if a phone call or a text message comes via, an automated “I’m driving, so I could not address at the moment” message is returned to the contactee.
The message can be customised – customers could select a computer animated image or modify the default message as they choose.
No reference, however, has actually been made as to exactly how the app functions if you’re just a passenger.
The application is presently in beta as well as is just readily available to Dutch individuals for the time being. If you reside in The Netherlands and are keen to provide it a try, you can sign up here. For anybody else intending to try the app, an. apk data is also available for download from the SamMobile website. (SamMobile is a fan website as well as has no main affiliation with Samsung, so we’d advise caution if you’re not acquainted with sideloading apps in Android.)
The complete variation of the app is expected to be readily available on the Google Play Shop beginning mid-May.
